Welcome to our inaugural blog post. I thought a lot about what the first thing we would tell the outside world. About how our site should come across and how we want to help others with this business.
And it made me realize there is the possibility that some that do not recognize our hard work and dedication because we, the founders of IT Strategy, are classified as Millennials.
Saying that you are a millennial has become taboo over the last few years. We are a generation that is almost evenly split and on very opposite ends of the spectrum. The first group is hardworking (almost to a fault), motivated to preserve the world around us for future generations, and very much so driven to improve our wellbeing.
Then there is the second group which is responsible for all the “negative press” millennials receive. Those who think everything gets handed to them, that hard work isn’t valued and will do anything other than tire them out. And unfortunately, like it is often the case, the bad press overpowers the good when it comes to our generation.
There is a lot of speculation that this stems from the fact that we were born in the everyone gets a trophy for their participation generation. I remember being a young child in sports and receiving a trophy for my team at the end of the season where we weren’t in the first place. It said PARTICIPANT in big letters on the bottom. I looked at it and felt confused. My first thought was, “We didn’t win, we didn’t earn this.” I can tell you that as I got older and was put in the position to declutter, that was one of the first things to go.
Not all Millennials are looking for a participation trophy. Many of us work hard and look to change the participation trophy into the trophy you have to achieve. What type of Millennial are you? Do you think there is room for an additional type of Millennial?
